The Photo Problem
Juggling your digital photos is tricky. Besides their sheer number and overall size, you must deal with imports, backups, and various image formats. Soon, you’ll wrestle with duplicates, and you hope that cloud synchronisation keeps working, until it doesn’t.
There is excellent software out there to help you—but usually for a monthly price. The basic photo management capabilities of major OS vendors feel stale if not regressive, and also seem to gently push you towards a cloud-based solution. And visualization-oriented open source tools might have a hard time, too, as GPU-intensive GUI frameworks are very hard to maintain over different platforms.
